Halloween Slime Cupcakes

Spooky sweet, wiggly jiggly Slime Cupcakes are the coolest Halloween treat on the block this year!

We took a yummy chocolate cupcake and topped it with a swirl of green jello that looks just like real slime!

The slime craze may have slowed down a little bit, but I just can’t help myself. We made SO much slime over the past few years, some of it was even edible slime! But this recipe is different because it is actually a real dessert that’s meant to be eaten and it looks awesome on a party table.

One thing I love about this recipe is that it’s surprisingly easy to make! You don’t need to make any special frosting or mess around with green food coloring. The lime jello is already the perfect shade of slime green and the perfect jiggly texture!

These fun slime cupcakes are perfect for Halloween, a slime-themed birthday party, or even a Ghostbusters party (think: the Ooze!)

Kitchen Tools Used

Instructions

Because the jello takes a couple hours to set, I recommend starting with that part of the recipe first.

To Make the Jello Slime Monsters

  1. Bring water to boil in a medium saucepan, then remove from heat and stir in green jello until dissolved.
  2. Pour the jello mixture into the mold.
  3. Place the mold in the fridge for 2-3 hours or until set.
  4. Once the Jell-O has set, remove from the fridge.

To Make the Cupcakes

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners. Mix the cupcake ingredients and pour into the cupcake tin so the cups/liners are 2/3 full. Bake 18-20 minutes, then remove from oven and allow to cool.
  2. Use a piping bag to make a swirl of chocolate frosting on top of the cooled cupcakes.
  3. Use frosting to “glue” two candy eyeballs to each slime blob.
  4. Place one slime on top of each cupcake, pushing gently into the frosting to hold it in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Make These Cupcakes Ahead Of Time?

Yes and no. You can make all the individual components ahead of time, up to a day or two in advance. Make the cupcakes and store them in an airtight container at room temperature. Make the slime jello molds and keep them in the refrigerator.

Once you assemble the cupcakes, their shelf life is more limited. Over time, jello starts to become a little liquid-y and this can affect the texture of the cupcakes. So you wouldn’t want to assemble them in advance. But you CAN make all of the parts ahead of time and then put everything together when you’re ready to serve.

What Can I Do If I Don’t Have The Mold?

In the ingredients list I provided a couple links to molds that could work for this recipe, available on Amazon. Another place to check would be your local craft store, as they often have a section for specialty foods and kitchen items.

If you still aren’t able to locate a mold that you like, you can do a swirl of green icing and put eyeballs in it, so it will have the same shape, if not the same jiggly texture.
