Pure indulgence made surprisingly simple — these decadent chocolate truffles rival any fancy chocolatier’s creation and are just 3 ingredients!
Homemade Chocolate Truffles
This Christmas, my Aunt Tina gave us a bag of chocolate truffles and they were soooo good! This simple, yet memorable dessert also seemed like it would be easy enough to re-create at home, so we spent a little time in the kitchen trying to make our own version of those chocolate masterpieces.
Y’all I think we did a pretty good job and these homemade chocolate truffles are actually really easy to make and you only need 3 ingredients!
These rich dark chocolate truffles melt in your mouth with velvety richness – they honestly taste just as decadent as something you’d buy in a candy store! A box of these truffles would make fantastic gifts for friends, family, neighbors, or whoever you want to treat!
I’m sharing this recipe just in time for Valentine’s Day because nothing says “I love you” more than a big box of chocolate!
This really might just be the easiest of all the truffle recipes out there, and the flavor is perfection! My fellow chocolate lovers, this one is for you!
Ingredients

- Medium Saucepan
- Heat Safe Bowl
- Loaf Pan or Small Baking Pan
- Food Prep Gloves
- Small Cookie Scoop
Instructions
- Place the chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl. Add the heavy cream to a medium saucepan and heat until it is steaming, but not boiling. Pour the hot cream on top of the chocolate chips and and stir/whisk until melted and smooth, just like you would if making chocolate ganache.
- Pour the melted chocolate mixture into a loaf pan and chill in fridge for 2 hours.
- Take the pan out of fridge and use a spoon to scoop up 1/2 TB chocolate and roll into a ball (we wore gloves so it didn’t stick to hands).
- Drop each chocolate truffle into a bowl of cocoa powder and roll until coated. Place on lined baking sheet or cookie sheet and chill for 1 hour.
Prep Tips
This is an easy recipe to customize with different flavors, toppings, chocolates, or even a dairy-free recipe! Here’s how:
- Chocolate – We used semi-sweet chocolate chips to make this recipe. I recommend using a high quality chocolate because it is the base of the recipe and you want it to taste as delicious as possible. Dark chocolate chips would also work well.
- Cream – We used heavy whipping cream to make the ganache base of our truffles. For an extra decadent (and a little bit sweeter) version, you could substitute sweetened condensed milk.
- Coating – For our recipe we kept it simple with a dusting of cocoa powder. This keeps the finished truffles from sticking to each other while they’re on a plate or in a storage container. However, you can totally get creative and try different coatings, such as sprinkles, powdered sugar, peanut butter powder, or chopped nuts.
- Flavor – Again, we kept it simple. All chocolate!! However, you could use extracts to switch up the flavors. I recommend using 1/2 teaspoon or less of any added flavorings.
- Non-Dairy Version – We’ve also tried this recipe with dairy-free ingredients to see if it worked and it absolutely did! We used dairy-free chocolate (which was designed for melting) and coconut cream (not to be confused with regular coconut milk).
- Yield – This recipe will make anywhere from 18-30 truffles, depending on the size of the scoop used. We made ours about 1/2 tablespoon in size and got about 2 dozen truffles.
- Storage – Keep your dark chocolate truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1-2 weeks. If you need to stack the truffles in the container, place a sheet of parchment paper between layers.
