Valentine’s Day Fudge

Make your own Valentine’s Day candy with this easy fudge recipe!

We started making festive fudge recipes for holidays because it is surprisingly easy and always turns out so beautifully. We started with this Halloween Fudge and this Christmas fudge recipe — they are what inspired this Valentine’s Day fudge!

We started with a simple white chocolate fudge as the base and used a few drops of red food coloring and pink food coloring to make the gorgeous red and pink layers. Then we topped our fudge with cute heart sprinkles so it really looks like a fun Valentine treat. This would make a great gift idea for friends, neighbors, teachers, etc.

Let’s get cooking!

Instructions

This recipe is made in two steps: the pink fudge layer is prepared first. Next, we make a batch of red fudge to create the top and bottom layers. It only takes about 10 minutes to cook each layer, but you’ll need a couple hours for each layer to chill, so be sure to plan ahead so you have plenty of time.

To Prep: Line a 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.

To Make The Pink Layer

  1. Remove the top from one can of sweetened condensed milk and stir in the pink food coloring until the milk is bright pink in color.
  2. Pour the pink condensed milk into a medium saucepan, with the white chocolate chips and butter.
  3. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until melted and smooth.
  4. Scoop the pink fudge mixture into the prepared pan and spread with a spatula to cover the bottom of the pan evenly. Allow to harden completely before making the red layers.

To Make The Red Layers

  1. Remove the hardened sheet of pink fudge from the pan and peel off the parchment paper. Set aside. Place a new piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the empty pan.
  2. Remove the top from the second can of sweetened condensed milk and stir in the red food coloring, until the milk is a bright red color. Pour the red colored condensed milk into the washed saucepan along with remaining white chocolate chips and butter. Heat over medium or medium low until melted and smooth. Stir often.
  3. Pour half of the red fudge mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Take the block of pink fudge and place on top of the red layer. Gently press down to push out any air pockets, but not so much that the red fudge squirts out the sides.
  4. Pour the remaining red fudge mixture on top of the pink layer and spread with a spatula as needed. If using sprinkles, add them now to the top of the fudge, while it’s still wet. Cover the dish with foil or a lid and place the pan in the fridge until it’s completely hardened.

When you’re ready to serve or store, use the parchment paper to pop the fudge out of the pan and then a sharp knife to cut into squares.

Prep Tips

  • This fudge is white chocolate flavored, but you can also jazz it up! Try adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to one of the layers for a richer taste. You can also try almond extract too!
  • I recommend using a high-quality white chocolate for this recipe…you really can taste the difference! We love Ghirardelli for our white chocolate, but feel free to use your favorite kind. I linked to another brand of white chocolate chips in our ingredients list because sometimes Ghirardelli is pricey online, but you should be able to find it readily in stores.
  • Instead of sprinkles, you could also top your fudge with conversation hearts for a festive touch.
  • If you don’t have a square baking dish, you can also use an 11 x 7″ rectangle pan, like pictured above.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Servings Does This Recipe Make?

We cut our fudge into blocks that were about 2 inches in size, which yields 12 individual servings. You can slice into larger or smaller pieces if desired.

How Do You Store Homemade Fudge?

Fudge can be stored at room temperature, in the fridge, or even in the freezer! If stored in an airtight container at room temp, fudge will stay good for up to 2 weeks. If kept refrigerated, it can last up to a month, though you want to be sure to keep in a sealed food storage container to prevent the fudge from drying out. I recommend placing parchment paper between layers to prevent the fudge squares from sticking to each other.

To freeze fudge, cut into individual pieces, wrap each one in plastic wrap, and put them in a freezer bag. They’ll stay fresh for up to 3 months! When you’re ready to enjoy, pull as many pieces out of the bag as you’d like and allow them to thaw slowly at room temperature. Do not microwave.

Can You Use The Microwave To Make Fudge?

Yes, you can us a microwave to melt the white chocolate chips, but the order of things will be slightly different. You’ll also want to make sure to use a large microwave-safe bowl. Even though it’s a microwaveable bowl, you want to handle it carefully, as it may become hot.

To do so, place the white chocolate chips into a heat-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second intervals, until melted and smooth. Stir in the butter and the colored condensed milk. Then finish preparing the fudge as described in the instructions above.
