Christmas Tree Brownies

These Christmas Tree Brownies are more than just a dessert โ€” they’re an experience! Each bite mixes rich, fudgy flavor and a festive spirit that will make your taste buds sing carols. These beautiful sweets are sure to light up your holiday table and put a smile on everyone’s faces!

I love this recipe because it is super easy and starts with boxed brownie mix. And around the holidays, anything I can do to save time is a winner in my book!

But what really makes these Christmas brownies special is that they look just like a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Kids will love to help ice and decorate these mini brownie Christmas trees with “ornaments” made with candy and sprinkles.

If you’re looking for a holiday treat that looks amazing but isn’t a complicated recipe, this is just the thing!

Christmas tree brownies ingredients, with text labels: brownie mix, mini Reese's, green icing, Christmas sprinkles.

Instructions

To Prep: Preheat oven to 350ยฐF (or the temperature listed on the back of the brownie box). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.

  1. Prepare brownie batter according to package directions, baking in a greased 9-inch round pan. Allow brownies to cool completely after baking, then chill in the fridge for 30 minutes (this will help make it easier to remove them from the pan).
  2. Remove brownies from the pan and cut them into 8 equal triangles. Use green cookie icing to make a zig-zag pattern on each of the brownie triangles.
  3. Add a dot of the icing to the bottom of each miniature peanut butter cup, using it as “glue” to attach the peanut butter cut to the bottom of each brownie tree. This will be the tree trunk or tree stand.
  4. Decorate with sprinkles and allow the icing to dry completely before serving or storing.

Prep Tips

  • Brownies – You can use your favorite brownie mix for this recipe, or even homemade brownies! If using store-bought, simply follow the package directions, but keep an eye on them as they bake just in case.
  • Candy – Miniature peanut butter cups are the perfect size and shape for the tree stand/trunk. Another option would be to use Rollos, since they are also chocolate on the outside and a similar shape.
  • Baking – To easily remove the brownies from the pan, be sure to grease the baking pan thoroughly or use a generous coating of non-stick cooking or baking spray. Make sure they’re done in the middle first, by inserting a toothpick in the middle to make sure it comes out clean. When the brownies have cooled, gently run a butter knife around the edge of the pan, to separate the brownies from the pan.
  • Icing – Cookie icing is super convenient for this recipe because it comes with a decorating tip. You could also use your favorite homemade icing recipe, with a piping bag. If using homemade icing, you’ll want bright green or neon green food coloring so it stands out on the brownies.
  • Decorations – We used assorted Christmas sprinkles to decorate our tree…they look like Christmas lights and ornaments! You could use other candy decorations too, such as crushed candy canes or mini chocolate chips.
  • Storage – Keep your holiday brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days. You can also wrap them in aluminum foil or place inside a plastic bag.
