Christmas Oreos
These Christmas-themed Oreos are so pretty it’s almost a shame to eat them! They’re easy to make too! If you’re looking for a fun and festive dessert recipe to enjoy or gift, this is one to try!
Easy Christmas Oreos
It doesn’t get much cuter than this!!
So, it’s Christmas cookie baking season. While I love to EAT all the cookies, I am not necessarily the most talented baker. Actually, my husband is the baker in our family!
That’s why I love these Christmas Oreos — there is no baking required!
They are one of my favorite cookies! (I make similar recipe for Halloween using chocolate peanut butter crackers).
Literally ANYONE can make these easy Christmas cookies, and they are perfect for kids to help decorate! They look so pretty on a holiday dessert table or as a gift idea.
And not only do they look fabulous, but they taste delicious too! I mean, Oreos are tasty all on their own, but dip them in white chocolate and you’ve got the perfect treat!
Chocolate dipped cookies are one of our favorite things to make as a family, because the girls can help from start to finish. For Halloween we made chocolate dipped peanut butter crackers decorated with spiderwebs and for Valentine’s Day we made chocolate dipped “Conversation Heart” marshmallows.
So of course for Christmas we are going to make a cute chocolate dipped dessert to share with our family and friends!
We will give you some ideas for decorating, but there are lots of ways to customize this recipe and make it your own. Hope you love them as much as we do!
Ingredients & Supplies
I’ve included ad links for your convenience in re-creating this recipe; disclosure policy available here.
- 1 package of regular Oreos or Peppermint Oreos
- 1 bag of Ghiradelli white chocolate melting wafers
- 1 tsp peppermint extract
- Cookie Decorating Icing, in multiple holiday colors
Kitchen Tools Used
- Cookie sheet or baking sheets
- Parchment Paper or Non-stick silicone baking matÂ
- Microwave safe bowls
Can You Use White Chocolate Chips Instead?
You might notice on the ingredient list that I specified white chocolate melting wafers. These chocolate wafers are specially formulated to melt easier and smoother than regular chocolate chips. Almond bark also works well for this same reason.
However, if you have white chocolate chips on hand you CAN use them. To make sure that you get the best results, stir in 1 Tablespoon or shortening or coconut oil during the melting process.
How to Make Holiday Decorated Oreo Cookies
Gather all of your ingredients before you start. Once the chocolate is melted, you’ll want to be ready to start dipping the Oreo cookies in it right away, while it is smooth and liquid.
1. Prep
Line baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. (We love these nonstick mats because they’re reusable, easy to wash, and baked goods pop right off!)
Melt the white chocolate using a double boiler or in the microwave. If microwaving, be sure to use microwave-safe bowls. Heat in 20 second intervals, stirring between, until smooth.
Once the white chocolate is melted, mix in the peppermint extract. Remove from heat.
2. Dip the Cookies
Dip each Oreo cookie in the melted white chocolate and flip to coat completely. If you’re handy with chopsticks, they work great for this step! You can also use a fork.
Allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl before placing each cookie on the silicon mat to dry.
Repeat until each cookie is coated in white chocolate.
Allow the chocolate coating to set completely before decorating. You can place the cookie sheet in the refrigerator or freezer to speed up the process.
3. Decorate!
Use your cookie icing to draw holiday themed designs. There is no limit to what you can create! Here are some of our ideas:
- Christmas trees
- Candy canes
- Snowflakes
- Stockings
- Wreaths
- Christmas ornaments
- Snowman
- Holiday phrases, such as “Joy” and “Ho, Ho, Ho”
But those are just idea starters — feel free to use your own ideas too!
Helpful Tips
- Instead of cookie icing, you can also use white melting wafers mixed with food coloring. Green candy melts, red candy melts, etc. are also a good option. If using melted chocolate, you’ll want to have a decorating bag or plastic bag with the tip cut off so you can draw with the melted chocolate.
- Always make sure that the chocolate is fully set and hard before decorating or storing.
- To store your cookies, keep in an airtight container. You can stack them, but again, make sure all the chocolate and frosting have completely hardened. Refrigeration is not needed.
