Instructions

To Prep: Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper. Line a large baking sheet or tray with parchment paper.

  1. Melt the Chocolate – Add the chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl and heat for one minute, then stir and heat in 30 second heat sessions, stirring between, until fully melted. Allow the chocolate to cool to room temperature.
  2. Make the Filling – Scoop the Cool Whip into a large bowl. Add the melted chocolate to the Cool Whip and stir to combine. Spread the chocolate Cool Whip mixture into your prepared 8×8 inch pan and freeze for about 30 mutes, until set.
  3. Create the Squares – Use the parchment paper to pull the chocolate mixture out of the pan and set it on a cutting board. Cut into 6 rows, then another 6 rows, so that you have 36 squares. Place the squares on the prepared baking sheet and freeze 30 more minutes.
  4. Add the Coating – Line another baking tray with parchment paper. Melt the chocolate wafers in a microwave safe bowl, as you did the chocolate chips. Dip each candy square into the melted chocolate, turning until completely coated, then place on your prepared baking sheet. Freeze until ready to serve.

Prep Tips

  • Chocolate – Melting wafers are specifically formulated to melt smoothly and evenly. You can substitute chocolate chips to make the coating, but I recommend stirring a teaspoon of coconut oil or shortening into the melted chocolate chips. This will help them stay smooth and shiny when coating the candy.
  • Variations – This candy recipe can be easily customized for different occasions by adding toppings or trying different flavors of chocolate melting wafers for the coating. Try Christmas sprinkles to make holiday candy! Or dark chocolate melting wafers for an extra rich and decadent treat.
  • Storage – Keep in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month.
