Christmas Nougat Candy with Gumdrops
This old-fashioned nougat candy has been a favorite on holiday candy platters for generations!
The base is a soft and fluffy marshmallow nougat that’s filled with colorful gumdrops. It’s a sweet and festive treat that tastes as delicious as it looks!
While this isn’t a traditional homemade nougat (which involves whipping sugar and egg whites and can be a bit time intensive), the ease of this recipe is what makes it special. This is a hallmark of many mid-century recipes, where convenience foods were new and in vogue.
If you’re looking for a vintage treat to make this holiday season, this gumdrop nougat candy is definitely a fun one to try!

- 10 Ounces Dots Candy (or similar gumdrop candy)
- 1 (10-Ounce) Bag of Mini Marshmallows
- 2 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
- 1 ยพ Cup White Chocolate Chips
Helpful Kitchen Tools:
Instructions
To Prep: Line and 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
- Add the white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high in 30 second intervals, stirring between, until melted and smooth.
- In a separate bowl, add the marshmallows and butter and microwave on high for 2 minutes or until the marshmallows have risen to the top of the bowl. Remove from the microwave and stir until the butter has fully melted and the marshmallows are smooth.
- Working quickly, add the melted white chocolate to the marshmallow mixture and stir well. Add all but โ cup of the Dots to the mixture and stir until evenly distributed.
- Scoop the nougat mixture into the prepared pan. Coat hands with oil or cooking spray and press the mixture into the bottom of the pan and spread as needed. Press the remaining gumdrops into the top of the nougat. Allow to set for about 4 hours at room temperature, or in the fridge for at least an hour.
Prep Tips:
- Storage – Keep in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days, or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Do not freeze.
- Colors – While we used all colors of the Dots in this recipe, you could also separate them and just use the red and green gumdrops. Depending on the type of gumdrops used, switching out the colors can also allow you to change the flavors of the final recipe.
- Serving – To serve, make sure the nougat is fully set, then use the parchment paper to pop the entire batch of nougat out of the pan. Now you can use a sharp knife to cut into bite-sized pieces.
