Holiday White Russian

The best part of the holiday season…holiday parties!! We regularly host our family and friends for get-togethers during the holidays and at Christmas time, so I like to prepare special holiday cocktails for the grown-ups to enjoy. I do admit that I like my holiday drinks to be a little bit over-the-top…I mean, it is the holidays after all and that is the time to enjoy all the sweets and treats!

If you’re planning ahead and looking for a great cocktail to enjoy by the fire or to serve to your holiday party guests, you can’t go wrong with this Christmas White Russian drink!

It’s creamy, dreamy, and has a sugared rim that looks like snowflakes!

What Is In A White Russian?

A White Russian is a classic cocktail that is made with vodka, coffee liqueur, and heavy cream. It is a smooth and creamy cocktail that is often enjoyed after dinner or as a boozy dessert.

To make our White Russian holiday drink, we took this traditional White Russian cocktail recipe and added a holiday twist by incorporating creamy white chocolate and peppermint flavors. It’s quite similar to the original, but that peppermint kick gives it a definite holiday vibe.

It’s sweet enough to be a dessert, but it does pack a punch, so sip slowly!

Prep Tips

  • Garnish –ย We finished our cocktails with a festive peppermint stick and a rolled wafer cookie (like a pirouette cookie). Other garnishes that would work well could be a cinnamon stick or chocolate shavings.
  • Peppermint – We used peppermint coffee syrup in our drink, but if you really want to add a kick to your cocktails, you could alternatively use peppermint schnapps. You could also skip the peppermint syrup and use peppermint vodka to get that same flavor.
  • Vodka – You can use any brand of vodka that you prefer. You don’t have to use the most expensive vodka, since you’ll be mixing it, however, you want to use something that tastes clean. You could also use peppermint vodka (as mentioned above).
  • Sugar Rim – We kept things simple with a white sugar sprinkle rim on our glass. It reminds me of ice crystals or snowflakes! You could also rim your cocktail glasses with crushed peppermints or a cinnamon sugar rim.
  • Substitutions – If you don’t have vanilla coffee creamer on hand, you can use whole milk or cream with a splash of vanilla extract OR in combination with vanilla vodka. If you don’t have peppermint syrup, you can use a splash of peppermint extract – but just a splash, as the extract is stronger than coffee syrup! If you don’t have white chocolate liqueur, you can just use extra vanilla coffee creamer.
