- Coarse Salt
- Fresh Pomegranate Arils (Seeds)
- Sprig of Fresh Rosemary
- Lime Wedge
- Christmas Straws
Bartender Tools We Used
- Stainless steel 2-piece cocktail shakerย ย โ This is the style I learned to bartend with and still prefer, but you can use a cocktail shaker with a built-in strainer too. Whatever youโre comfortable with will work!
- Cocktail strainerย โย These are super handy to have on hand, for more than just making drinks!
- Pint Size Mason Jar โย This is what we served our drinks in, but you can use any glass!
Instructions
- Run a lime wedge along the rim of your glass, then press into a saucer or small plate filled with coarse salt. Allow the salt to dry and stick to the glass, then fill the glass with ice cubes.
- Pour tequila, triple sec, pomegranate juice, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake for a few seconds to mix, then strain into your prepared glass.
- Garnish with a lime slice, fresh pomegranate seeds & rosemary sprig.
Prep Tips
- For a sweeter drink, add a teaspoon of simple syrup or agave nectar to the shaker with the other drink ingredients. You could also use a sugar rim instead of a salt rim for a sweet touch.
- You can use any glassware you like for this drink! I like to serve cocktails in mason jars because they’re sturdy and less likely to spill, plus they look pretty! However, a traditional margarita glass or cocktail glass would work well too.
- We added fresh pomegranate to the drink as a garnish because it looks festive, however it is not crucial for the flavor of the drink. I know that peeling pomegranates is a bit time-consuming, so if you’re in a hurry you can skip the fruit and just use the bottled juice!
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Best Tequila to Use for Margaritas?
I get asked this question often, as margaritas are my favorite cocktail to make and share. Honestly, you can use any type of tequila you like, from tequila blanco (silver tequila) to tequila reposado (aged tequila). I often use Espolon (pictured here) or Cuervo Tradicional because they are affordable, quality tequilas that are easy to find at most liquor stores.
My main advice would be to use your favorite tequila, but not to spendย too much money on it. You don’t need to use a premium top-shelf brand because it’s going to be mixed with juice and you won’t really taste the tequila itself.
How Do You Make a Pitcher?
This recipe is really easy to prep ahead and serve a crowd! Here’s directions for a Pomegranate Margarita Pitcher:
- Combine 1 cup tequila, 1 cup triple sec, 1 cup pomegranate juice, and 1/4 cup fresh lime juice in a large pitcher.
- If there’s still plenty of room left in your pitcher, you can double the above amounts.
- If your pitcher has a lid, put this in place and keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve. I recommend waiting to add ice until serving, so the drink doesn’t get watered down.
- Want to make it frozen? Add the above ingredients to a blender with 2-3 cups ice and blend until you have your desired consistency.
