Disclosure: I do not eat like this on a daily basis. I don’t necessarily recommend that you do either.
BUT sometimes you just want to eat something that will wow your tastebuds and send you into carb-y cheesy bliss. You know, something like you might find at a state fair or carnival. (The epicenters of ridiculously decadent treats).
If you are looking for the ultimate mix of sweet and savory to satisfy those splurge day cravings, then this Donut Grilled Cheese is IT.
Even better, this recipe is incredibly easy! The base recipe is only 2 ingredients, though you can customize with add-ins to amp up the experience.
So without further ado, I present to you the Carnival Style Donut Grilled Cheese…
Donut Grilled Cheese Ingredients:
- 6 donuts
- 6-12 slices Provolone cheese
(Makes 6 sandwiches)
STEP ONE: Place a frying pan over medium heat.
STEP TWO: Slice the donuts through the middle. Place one or two slices of Provolone cheese in the middle and form a sandwich. (The outer sides of the whole donut should be on the inside of the sandwich, for easier handling).
PS- A wooden cutting block is one our favorite kitchen finds! Gorgeous and versatile, they make great gifts too!
STEP THREE: Fry each side of the donut in the frying pan until just caramelized, about 2 minutes per side. Serve hot.
Tip: For some delicious variations, try this donut grilled cheese with red chile flakes, bacon, or peanut butter! The possibilities are endless!
