Green Lime Sherbet Punch

When I was working on this recipe, my husband watched intently and asked a lot of questions. Turns out, he’d never had a party punch before and was curious about the sherbet on top! I explained that every punch worth its salt has either ice cream or sherbet — it adds a delicious cold and creamy layer on top!

Growing up, I remember that almost every special event had a bowl of punch. Many were made for kids, though perhaps I just didn’t notice if the grown-ups had their own bowl too!

This is an easy lime sherbet punch — because of its color, this is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day! That’s what I had in mind when I created this recipe and why I nicknamed it “Lucky Leprechaun Punch.”

However, this green lime punch would also be fabulous for Christmas, baby showers, or any other special occasion!

This is an old-fashioned punch recipe and I’ve included directions to make it two ways: boozy and non-alcoholic. So no matter what you’re planning, this punch is perfect!

Add scoops of lime sherbet and lime slices, so that they float on top and are evenly spaced in the bowl. The bowl doesn’t have to be completely covered, but you want a nice layer of sherbet on top.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Keep My Punch From Getting Warm?

Since a punch bowl is usually sitting out on a party table, it can start to warm up if you don’t do anything. However, there are a few easy tricks to keep party punch nice and chilly:

  • Keep all liquid ingredients in the fridge until youโ€™re ready to mix the punch.
  • Freeze some of the limeade in ice cube trays, then add those juice cubes to the punch. Theyโ€™ll keep the party punch cold, but won’t water it down. You can always toss in a few juice ice cubes throughout your party, as needed.
  • Freeze your lime slices before adding to the punch bowl. They can also help chill the liquid.
  • Add more sherbet as it begins to melt, or is scooped out of the bowl during serving.

Can I Use a Different Type of Sparkling Wine?

Sure! We chose prosecco because even though it is technically a “dry” wine, it actually has a sweet flavor due to the types of grapes used. It pairs well with punch, adding bubbles and a hint of sweetness (without beingย too sweet)!

However, you can use any type of sparkling wine you like for this recipe. California sparkling wine, Spanish cava, and sparkling chardonnay (one of my favorites) would all be good choices too.

Can You Make Party Punch in Advance?

With some cocktails, you can mix them ahead of time and pour over ice when you’re ready to serve. Punch doesn’t work quite as well to make in advance for a couple reasons:

  • Sparkling wine and soda will both lose their fizziness over time and will cause the punch to taste โ€œflat.โ€
  • Sherbet melts!

The good news is that this is a super easy recipe and takes only a few minutes of prep time, so it is no biggie to make it on the spot!
