This is my first Christmas post of the season and it seems a little crazy to be writing about the holidays while it’s still eight-five degrees outside, but then again, it’s such a wonderful time of the year, so why not get excited early?!
Having just quit my job before Thanksgiving last year, I was trying to keep spending in check. This minimalist approach to the holidays actually gave me the inspiration for a frugal AND easy Christmas gift wrapping technique and I was surprised by just how much I loved the results!
Not only were the results surprisingly beautiful, but this was SO easy, cheaper than buying a bunch of wrapping supplies (ribbons, bows, tags, etc.), and there’s less trash to pick up when everyone’s done tearing open their presents.
All you need for this Easy Christmas Gift Wrapping:
- Simple wrapping paper of your choice
- A metallic Sharpie permanent marker (These are awesome!! They are similar to a paint pen and they dry very quickly.)
- Scissors
- Invisible Tape
Wrap your presents as you normally would, then draw your “ribbons” and “bows” with the metallic permanent marker. You might want to do two coats for better coverage. I did a variety of sizes and shapes, and I even drew candy canes and snowflakes on some of my boxes last year. There are so many possibilities, limited only by your own imagination!
After practicing on the sample boxes for this post, I think I’m going to do this Christmas gift wrapping with metallic markers again this year! It’s just so easy, and I love that I don’t end up tangled in a bunch of ribbon (seriously…it’s annoying!) I was a fine art student in high school, and sometimes I miss drawing and painting — this project brought back that creative spark. I actually enjoyed wrapping presents instead of looking at it as a chore!

My kids would love doing this! I think we’d probably end up with quite a lot of silver ribbon LOL! Thanks for linking up with #CreateMakeShare

Haha, yes…it is easy to get carried away…even as a grown-up! 🙂
