Juicy chicken baked in a creamy tomato sauce — one bite of this Marry Me Chicken dish is enough to make anyone fall in love!
Marry Me Chicken
One bite of this creamy, dreamy chicken and you’ll be head over heels in love too!
Marry Me Chicken is a creamy chicken dish made with simple ingredients. Tender chicken breasts are simmered in a creamy tomato based sauce that’s flavored with fresh herbs and spices. It tastes like something you’d get at a fancy Italian restaurant, but you can make this easy chicken dish at home in less than 30 minutes!
Why Is It Called “Marry Me Chicken?”
Marry Me Chicken may be based on an Italian recipe, Pollo Alla Romagnola, which features pan-roasted chicken in an herbed tomato sauce. The addition of cream and cheese makes the sauce even more irresistible, hence the new name.
Basically, this chicken is so tasty that you’ll want to marry it…or marry the person who cooked it!

Helpful Kitchen Tools
Instructions
To Prep: Preheat oven to 375°F. Season chicken with salt and pepper and allow to rest for about 10 minutes.
- Place a large skillet on the stovetop on medium-high heat. Add 1-2 Tablespoons olive oil and cook the chicken breasts for about 5 minutes on each side, until the outside is golden brown. Transfer the chicken to an oven-safe dish; leave the skillet with oil on the stove.
- Add the chopped garlic and thyme to the hot skillet and cook for 1 minute. Add the two types of tomatoes to the pan.
- Add the broth, cheese, cream, and pepper flakes to the pan. Bring this mixture to a boil, stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
- Pour the creamy sauce into the baking dish with the chicken. Bake uncovered at 375°F for 15 minutes.
Prep Tips
- Other garnish ideas: grated parmesan cheese, fresh oregano, fresh basil.
- Do not use “light” cream or cheese, as these won’t thicken the sauce adequately.
- I prefer using olive oil in this recipe to brown the chicken, but you could also use butter.
- You can also make Marry Me Chicken with chicken thighs. I’d recommend using bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs. The recipe steps are exactly the same, except chicken thighs may require 2-5 minutes of additional baking time.
- If you like a bit of heat, you can swap out the pepper flakes for a few slices of red chili pepper. Add the fresh pepper slices to the pan when you sauté the tomatoes.
Frequently Asked Questions
What To Serve With Marry Me Chicken?
The beauty of this dish is that the classic flavors and delicious sauce pair well with just about anything! You can serve Marry Me Chicken over fluffy white rice, serve it in a bowl and use bread for dipping up the sauce, layer it on top of your favorite type of pasta or noodles, or plate with roasted potatoes. You can even make it a keto-friendly dish by serving with veggies or cauliflower rice!
Is Marry Me Chicken Low Carb?
Speaking of keto-friendly, Marry Me Chicken is a naturally low carb recipe! Each serving contains about 13 grams total carbohydrates, or 11 grams net carbs (total carbs minus fiber). Each serving is a full chicken breast, so this is a hearty and satisfying dish, even though it’s keto friendly!
My favorite keto sides that would pair well with this dish are:
- Baby spinach; both fresh or sautéed would taste fantastic, similar to Olive Garden’s Tuscan Chicken!
- Cauliflower rice
- Low carb toast for dipping in the sauce
- Roasted vegetables such as turnips
Can Marry Me Chicken Be Made Ahead?
This is an excellent meal prep recipe because it holds well in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
- Storage: keep leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Reheating: You can microwave leftovers, but I prefer to simmer the chicken and sauce together in a sauté pan on the stovetop because the everything heats evenly.
