Strawberry Gummy Bears

Gummy bears are a favorite after-school snack or lunchbox treat of kids for generations!

These strawberry gummies are bursting with flavor because they are made from real fruit! The fruit juice flavors give them a tasty strawberry lemonade taste while still being super easy to make.

Even better is what they don’t have:

  • No artificial dyes
  • No processed sugar

And they taste sooo good!

Believe it or not, it’s pretty easy to make gummy bears with fruit juice at home! This recipe makes a big batch, so you can whip up enough to last the month!

Instructions

Add diced strawberries to your blender with lemon juice and honey. Blend well until you have a liquid consistency (no big lumps). Pour the juice through a mesh strainer to remove any seeds.

Combine juice and gelatin in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk as you bring the juice to a slow boil. Once boiling, remove from heat.

While juice is still warm, use a dropper to fill the gummy bear molds. This mold set on Amazon comes with a dropper…it’s super handy!

Place molds on a baking tray to keep them steady, then place in the fridge for 20 minutes. This will solidify the gummies.

TIP: Keep remaining gummy mixture warm while the molds chill. I do this by keeping the saucepan on low heat, stirring occasionally.

When gummies have set, they should pop right out of the mold! Repeat until you’ve used all of your fruit juice mixture.

Note: Children under 1 years of age should not consume any food made with honey.

Prep Tips

  • Yield – The exact yield will depend on the size of the mold used. However, if you follow our recipe amounts and use the same type of gummy bear mold, you will end up with at least a couple hundred little bears! We counted about 350 when we made the recipe.
  • Fruit Options – You can use pretty much any type of fruit! Simply follow the instructions and swap out your choice of fruit. If there are seeds (like strawberries have) be sure to strain the juice!
  • Storage – While they don’t need to be refrigerated, keeping your gummy bears in the fridge will help them last longer. To store, place your gummies in a sealed zip-top bag or food storage container with a lid. If you notice that they are sticking to each other, lightly dust them with cornstarch before storing (like we do with our Jello gummy bears).

Are Gummy Bears Healthy?

While they may be low in fat, traditional gummy bears that you buy at the candy store are not exactly a health food. That’s because they are primarily made from sugar.

In fact, if you look at the nutrition facts on one of the most popular gummy bear brands, the first TWO ingredients are sugars!

However, these homemade fruit juice gummies are another story!

They are made with REAL fruit and only lightly sweetened with natural raw honey. They taste sweet, but are not loaded with processed sugars! Definitely a much healthier alternative to store-bought gummies!

  1. How do you get the juice to go through the mesh strainer or what kind of mesh strainer do you use?

  2. They were not set after 20min? I just put them in the fridge again… i don’t know if that would help

I followed directions except I added about a teaspoon of sugar
