These Chocolate Halloween Monster Cookies are loaded with everything you want in a Halloween treat: rich chocolate flavor, colorful candy, and plenty of festive sprinkles. Using chocolate cake mix as the base gives the cookies a soft, fudgy texture while keeping the recipe incredibly simple. In fact, you only need 5 ingredients to make the whole batch!

The candy and sprinkles give every cookie a slightly different monster-inspired look, so there’s no complicated decorating required. They’re quick enough to whip up for a Halloween movie night but colorful and festive enough for a party or Halloween dessert table. Plus, they’re an easy recipe for kids to help make, especially when it’s time to pile on the candy and sprinkles!

Instructions

To Prep: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a cookie sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper.

  1. Make the Cookie Dough – In a large bowl, stir together the cake mix, oil, and eggs until combined. Fold in the Halloween confetti baking mix.
  2. Bake – Portion out the cookie dough using a 1 ½ tablespoon cookie scoop, placing them two inches apart on the prepared pan. Bake for 9-11 minutes.
  3. Decorate – Remove the cookies from the oven and when they have cooled just enough to handle, immediately press 2-3 candy eyes on each one.
  4. Cool – Allow to cool on the baking sheet for at least 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Prep Tips

  • Cake Mix – You can make these with any flavor of cake mix you prefer. This recipe is formulated for a 13.25 oz box of cake mix and uses 1/3 cup vegetable oil. If you use 15.25 oz box of cake mix, you will need to increase the amount of oil to 1/2 cup.
  • Decorating – The Halloween baking confetti that was used in this recipe was purchased at Walmart. You can alternatively make your own mix using Halloween M&M’s and sprinkles.
  • Dough Tip – For thicker cookies, chill the dough for 20-30 minutes in fridge before baking.

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix 13.25oz box
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Halloween Baking Confetti mix or you can use a mix of M&M’s and sprinkles
  • Candy eyeballs

Instructions
