Peppermint Puppy Chow Recipe
This festive peppermint puppy chow recipe is made with just 4 simple ingredients and is perfect for Christmas parties, holiday gatherings, or anytime you’re craving a sweet and minty snack!
Candy Cane Puppy Chow
After I discovered puppy chow…I was hooked! Despite the name, “puppy chow” is actually a human-friendly snack made with candy coated Chex cereal. It’s so easy to make and also easy to customize for different occasions. You may also see it called “muddy buddies” and it is pretty much the same thing.
We’ve made a version of this sweet snack mix for almost every holiday: pumpkin spice puppy chow, Leprechaun crunch puppy chow, Valentine’s puppy chow, and even Christmas puppy chow!
Well, one holiday puppy chow recipe just wasn’t enough, so today I’m sharing another Christmas chex mix made with a cool peppermint crunch coating. All you need are 4 simple ingredients and about 30 minutes to make it (and honestly, half of that time is just waiting for the coating to dry). If I can make this, anyone can!
Here’s the scoop: crunch Chex cereal coated in peppermint-infused white chocolate and dusted with candy cane crumbles. It’s sweet, crispy, minty, and melts in your mouth!
Once you try our candy cane muddy buddies, I think it will be one of your favorite holiday treats too!

- Fold in the crushed peppermint, stirring until evenly distributed.
- Spread the candy coated cereal mixture in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow to air dry completely before serving or storing.
Prep Tips
- Peppermints – You can use peppermint candy or candy canes in this recipe. You want them to be crushed into fine crumbs, with only small pieces and not a lot of big chunks, as we want the peppermint dust to stick to the candy coating. One way to crush up the peppermints is by using a heavy duty food processor. Another way to do so is by placing the peppermints into a gallon size freezer bag and crushing with a rolling pin or meat mallet.
- Cereal – We used Rice Chex cereal, but you could use any other type of Chex cereal. I like the rice version because it is gluten free!
- White Chocolate – You can substitute white chocolate melting wafers for the almond bark in this recipe. 3 cups of white chocolate melting wafers should be about equivalent to 24 ounces of almond bark.
- Storage – Your peppermint snack mix can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Refrigeration is not needed.
- Mix-Ins – Try adding Christmas sprinkles or peppermint M&M candies for even more holiday flair!
