Affogato (Italian Coffee and Ice Cream Float)

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Seattle’s Best Coffee®. All opinions are 100% mine.

What’s Inside: An easy 3-ingredient Affogato recipe – (Italian ice cream & coffee float)

The word affogato literally means "drowned" in Italian — Easy, 3 ingredient classic ice cream and coffee dessert. It's a coffee-lover's dream come true!!

It was love at first taste!

The first time I tried (or even heard of) affogato was three years ago at dinner with my my mom. We were celebrating my approaching due date at a new restaurant. A wonderful meal capped by the perfect dessert. I couldn’t stop thinking about it!!

The word affogato literally means “drowned” in Italian — essentially, this classic dessert recipe is ice cream drowned in coffee. As a coffee-lover, it’s my dream dessert!

Even better, this recipe is EASY (3 ingredients & 3 steps) and can be enjoyed dairy free (if you’re lactose intolerant like me). It might just become your new favorite too!

How to make Affogato

Brew 4-6oz Seattle’s Best Coffee® — it’s the perfect combination of rich flavor and awesome price (and I’ve tried a lot of coffee!)

Either traditionally brewed or K-Cups will work. I love K-Cups because they are so quick and easy, but if you’re making this recipe for multiple people you might want to brew a full pot.

Set coffee aside to cool slightly.

Fill a mug or parfait glass with 2 scoops vanilla ice cream.

Pour warm coffee over ice cream until glass is full. Garnish with chocolate shavings and enjoy immediately!

Customize your dessert with more delicious options:

  • Swap chocolate ice cream for a rich mocha affogato.
  • Try it with caramel sauce for caramel macchiato flavor!
  • Experiment with the variety of flavors that Seattle’s Best Coffee® offers: Toasted Hazelnut is one of my personal favorites!
  • Make it decaf for a caffeine-free nighttime treat.
  • Dairy-free option: Sub non-dairy ice cream (we used almond milk “ice cream”). Dark chocolate shavings have very low milk content which is tolerable in my case. However, to be completely dairy free, opt for non-dairy chocolate or omit the chocolate altogether.

I recommend Seattle’s Best Coffee® for this recipe (and by itself!) because it tastes just as smooth as premium coffee, but it’s much easier on the wallet! Meal planning is central to how we are able to live as a one income family, and stocking up on budget-friendly coffee saves us up to $1000 a year!
