Tropical Fruit Charcoal Smoothie
If you close your eyes, you’d never guess that this pineapple smoothie contains charcoal at all! All you taste isย fruit!
Why charcoal?
I first tried charcoal in a juice blend from our yoga studio. I expected it to taste gross, but to my surprise it actually tasted really good. As in, I finished the whole thing!
Activated charcoal (not the stuff for your grill) is touted by many natural living enthusiasts as a somewhat of a cure-all with benefits including:
- Digestive system cleanse/detox
- Skin improvement
- Teeth whitening (when used for brushing)
I’m not sure about all the others, but I can definitely attest to charcoal’s “cleansing” effects. Soย if you have any issues with “slow” digestion, then this is something you might want to try!
There are also many reportsย of weight loss benefits (like this one on Fox News), though I’ve never gone on a full-scale juice cleanse myself.
I simply love to incorporate juices and smoothies into my daily healthy eating plan, and this is one of my new favoritesย โ a total keeper!

How to Make A Charcoal Detox Smoothie
Combine ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
PREP TIP: We actually started with a whole pineapple, and juiced it separately in a juicer. We then added this pineapple juice with the rest of the ingredients in the blender.ย This extra step prevents the smoothie from being pulpy, if you just popped the pineapple straight into the blender.ย Another option is to use prepared pineapple juice so you don’t have to fool with cutting up a pineapple.
