Easy Bunny Cake

Here’s how to make the easiest Easter bunny cake ever!

This adorable cake starts with a box of cake mix baked in two round pans, so the baking part is a breeze. Then with just two quick cuts to one of the cakes, you create the bunny’s ears and bow tie.

Once the pieces are arranged, all that’s left to do is frost and decorate. It’s one of those clever cake designs that looks festive and impressive, but the steps are actually really simple. Kids love helping add the bunny’s face and decorations, which makes it a fun Easter baking project.

Because it uses two round cakes, this bunny cake is also great for feeding a crowd at Easter brunch, dinner, or parties. It’s cheerful, nostalgic, and guaranteed to be the centerpiece dessert everyone loves!

Helpful Kitchen Tools

Instructions

  1. Make the Batter: Use your favorite box cake mix and pour the batter evenly between two round cake pans. Be sure to grease the pans.
  2. Bake the Cakes: Bake the cakes according to the box directions, until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cakes comes out clean.
  3. Cut the Cakes: Remove cakes from oven and cool. Set one of the round cakes aside; this will be the bunny’s face. Cut the second round cake so that you have two equal sized ovals to use as the ears and the leftover part in the middle is shaped like a bowtie.
  4. Assemble and Decorate: Place the cake pieces on a large baking sheet, arranging them so that it looks like a bunny with a bow tie. Scoop the white frosting into a piping bag with a star tip, so when you frost the cake it looks like fur. Fill the ears with pink frosting and use your favorite color of frosting for the bow tie. Use black decorating icing or melted chocolate chips to draw the whiskers, eyes, and mouth.

Prep Tips

  • Cake Mix – Use your favorite flavor of box cake mix; a standard 15.25 oz box works perfectly for this recipe.
  • Frosting – You can use homemade buttercream or canned frosting. If using store-bought, I recommend 2 cans to make sure you have enough to decorate the whole bunny.
  • Decorating Candy – Feel free to use any candy you like for the bunny’s face and bow tie, such as jelly beans, licorice, M&Ms, or chocolate candies. You could also use shredded coconut for a furry look if you want to spread the frosting instead of piping it.
  • Cutting the Cake â€“ Let the cakes cool completely before cutting so the pieces stay neat when shaping the ears and bow tie.
  • Serving â€“ Because the cake uses two full rounds, it’s great for parties and can easily feed a crowd.
  • Storage – Keep any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 2-3 days.
