Helpful Kitchen Tools:
- 9-inch Heart Shaped Springform Pan
- Stand mixer
- 1 large piping bag with star tip โ We bought a kit that included a reusable silicone piping bag and multiple decorating tips. It’s awesome and we use it all the time! (Great gift idea!)
Instructions
To Prep: Preheat oven to 350ยฐF and prep your heart shaped cookie cake pan with non-stick cooking spray. You can also use a regular round pan if you’re making a cookie cake for any occasion!
First, Make The Cookie Dough:
- Cream butter and sugars until fluffy and smooth, then beat in the eggs and vanilla extract.
- In a separate mixing bowl, which together dry ingredients.
- Slowly add flour mixture to wet ingredients, mixing as you go.
- Stir in chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, and M&Ms with a wooden spoon.
Next, Bake The Cookie Cake:
Once your dough is ready, scoop it into the cake pan and press down gently to fit. Top with sprinkles and bake for around 20 minutes, or until the edges just start to turn a light golden brown.
I like my cookie soft in the middle, so I take extra care not to over-bake. If you like your cookie a little more done, cook for another couple minutes.
Once the cookie pan is cool enough to handle, carefully remove cake from pan and place on a wire rack to cool completely.
While The Cookie Cools, Make The Frosting:
- Using a standing mixer, beat together all ingredients (except food coloring) until frosting is smooth and stiff peaks form.
- Add few drops of the pink coloring and mix until frosting is evenly colored.
- Scoop into a piping bag with star tip.
Now it’s time to decorate!
Pipe the frosting around the edge of the Valentines cookie cake and top with more sprinkles. You can even switch out the tip on your decorating bag and write a special Valentine’s Day message in frosting!

Hi Stacy! I made this recipe the other day and it was a complete disaster. My fault. It spread a lot and poured out of the pan all over the bottom of the oven. I was wondering where I went wrong. Did i overfill the pan or was i supposed to leave a space and not press the down all the way to the edge? Can you give me some tips on how to avoid this?
Hmm, might be a difference in the size of the pan used? But it really shouldn’t bubble up too much during baking!
What size heart pan do you use? This looks so amazing.
I think it was 10 inches – but anything close to that should be ok! As long as it’s not a mini heart pan.
I used a 9 inch pan and the batter came to the top of the pan when baked! I think in an 8 inch you couod easily do 2 cookies from one batch of dough.
How full do you suggest the pan to be? I’ve never made a cookie cake…my heart pans are a little over 7 inches. I know with a regular cake, pans shouldn’t be over 2/3 full. Thank you in advance!
It’s similar with a cookie cake – you don’t want to overfill, so 2/3 full should be the max.
I made 3 heart shaped 8″ cookie cakes. All three of them sank! I followed your directions…not sure what happened.
I’m not sure, as I’ve not had the same issue. Do you live at high altitude? That can affect texture or cause cakes to fall flat. Another culprit could be baking soda that is old and less effective.
