Hippie Juice
Hippie Juice is a fabulously fruity drink that combines watermelon, coconut, and citrus flavors for a summertime sipper that is as pretty as it is tasty!
Hippie Juice
Sometimes a girl just wants a “girlie” drink!
You know, something that is fun, colorful, fruity, and tastes amazing! And hippie juice fits the bill!
“Hippie Juice” is a watermelon-flavored punch that is strong, yet fruity and delicious. I imagine the name comes from the fun fruity flavors and the fact that it would be the perfect drink for enjoying a weekend at the music festival.
Or…for us moms…it is the perfect drink to make when you are *imagining* that you’re doing something fabulous and exciting! Sometimes a fruity drink is just the thing for cooling off on the porch on a hot summer weekend!
The Hippie Juice cocktail is usually made from a blend of watermelon vodka, coconut rum, and pink lemonade.
However, I decided to tweak the recipe a bit and use watermelon flavored rum instead of vodka, so there is no mixing alcohol. This makes it a smoother drink and less likely for a headache later!
Isn’t it just gorgeous?! It might just be my new favorite!!
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Watermelon Rum
- 1/3 Cup Triple Sec
- 1/3 Cup Coconut Rum
- 3 Scoops Pink Lemonade Powder
- 1 Liter Sparkling Water or Club Soda
- Fresh Strawberries and Lemons
Yield: Ingredient amounts are to make a pitcher, with 4-6 servings. Recipe is intended for readers 21+; please enjoyย responsibly.
Instructions
- Fill a large pitcher with ice. Slice strawberries and lemons and place in the pitcher.
- Pour in the rums and the triple sec.
- Add the pink lemonade powder and stir until dissolved.
- Top with club soda and give a stir to mix.
TIP: We used 3 scoops Country Time lemonade, which is enough to make a pitcher. If using a different brand, their measuring scoop may be a different size, so refer to package directions for the amount of lemonade needed to make a pitcher. Taste and add more as needed.
To serve, pour into a mason jar and garnish with more fresh fruit and pretty straw.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can You Use Crystal Light Instead of Lemonade?
Wondering if you can make this drink with a light or sugar-free lemonade mix? Sure!
However, the measurements for sugar free pink lemonade mix might be different than the regular mix. You’ll want to read the directions for the substitute you’re using and find the amount needed to make a pitcher.
The good thing is that you can always taste and adjust as needed while you’re mixing your pitcher of drinks. If there is not enough lemonade flavor, simply add more until you have the flavor you like.
Can You Make Hippie Juice Ahead of Time?
This is a great party recipe because you can make it ahead of time! Just don’t add the ice until you’re ready to serve so it doesn’t get watered down.
I’d recommend mixing everything in a big juice container, you know, the kind with a pour spout. Keep in the fridge until it’s party time, then guests can pour into glasses of ice.
This original recipe makes 4-6 servings, so if you’re making for a crowd and have a large container, you may want to triple the recipe to make a big batch.
Because we used club soda, I wouldn’t recommend making more than a day ahead to prevent it from getting flat.
