Pineapple Margaritas add a tropical twist to the classic margarita! In this recipe, sweet pineapple and tangy lime perfectly compliment the tequila for a refreshing summertime drink.

Pineapple Margarita

I’ve always been a tequila fan, and when I feel like a grown-up treat, I enjoy sipping on a glass of tequila reposado or añejo, with a couple ice cubes.

But sometimes I just want something fruity and fun! With tequila, of course!

In my family, I’m known for making margaritas for our get-togethers. For Thanksgiving, my fam requests my Thanksgiving Margaritas every year.

These pineapple margaritas are smooth and easy to drink, they actually remind me just a little bit of those Thanksgiving Margaritas that everyone loves so much! Pineapple pairs wonderfully with tequila — the sweet flavor and hint of tartness blends almost magically with the smoky tequila.

If you’re looking for something that is a little different than the “usual” margarita recipe, this one is a must-try! I’ve got this on my list to make for Cinco de Mayo!

Combine tequila, triple sec, simple syrup, pineapple juice and a squeeze of lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for about 5 seconds (any longer can water down the drink) and pour into your prepared glass.

Garnish with a pineapple wedge and lime slice.

Prep Tips

  • Try making these pineapple margaritas with Grand Marnier in place of the triple sec for an extra robust flavor!
  • I try to keep my drinks in the middle when it comes to strength. You can adjust the proportions of tequila to juice, to make the drink more or less strong to your liking. When serving a group, I generally err on the side of less strong just in case!
  • Try a margarita salt or a lime infused salt for a little kick!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Tequila to Use?

Because our pineapple margaritas are gold in color, you can use either silver tequila (tequila blanco) or gold tequila for this recipe. Because you’re mixing it with sweet pineapple juice, pretty much any tequila will taste good!

I don’t recommend using the cheapest tequila, but you also don’t need to spend a lot of money buying top shelf liquor. Something mid-range is perfect — like Cuervo or Espolón (pictured here).

Should I Use Fresh Pineapple Juice or Canned?

Either fresh or canned pineapple juice will work for this recipe, so you can use whichever you have on hand or prefer. It’s hard to beat fresh pineapple juice, so if you have a juicer and the time, I definitely recommend giving it a try!

How Do I Make a Pitcher?

To make a pitcher, simply triple or quadruple the ingredient amounts, depending on the size of your container. Combine all ingredients except salt and ice in the pitcher and stir until well mixed. Keep the pitcher in the fridge.

If you’re not serving the drinks right away, I would hold off on adding ice, so as to not water down the drinks. When ready to serve, ddd the ice to your glasses and then just pour the margarita mixture into the glass of ice.

Can You Make this a Frozen Margarita?

Sure! Triple your drink ingredient amounts and add to a blender of ice. Blend until you have a smooth, slushy consistency.

When making frozen margaritas, a trick I use is to freeze extra juice in an ice cube tray and use that in place of ice. This makes sure that the flavor is not diluted like it could be if you use regular ice.
