The Tipsy Texan Cocktail

Move over margaritas, there’s a new tequila drink in town!

Here in Texas, tequila is a staple on just about any menu. And as much as I love a margarita, I’m also always on the lookout for new tequila recipes.

The “Tipsy Texan” is a tequila cocktail that blends sweet peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and ginger ale to create a drink that’s smooth, sweet, and refreshing.

This one is a keeper! But don’t just take my word on it…I served it at a recent birthday party and it was a hit!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Type of Tequila for Cocktails?

I get asked this question quite a bit, to recommend my favorite tequila for making mixed drinks. And there’s no one “right” answer or best tequila. I always suggest to choose something in the middle: not a cheap tequila (which might give you a headache later) and not the top shelf premium stuff either. You don’t need to spend a bunch of money on a fancy tequila that’s going to be mixed together with juice and soda.

Some of my favorite tequilas for cocktails include: Espolón (pictured here), Cuervo Tradicional, Herradura, or Hornitos. Those are all pretty easy to find at most liquor stores and moderately priced.

Also, both gold tequilas and silver tequilas are fine for this recipe.

Can You Make a Pitcher of this Drink?

Sure! To make a pitcher, simply triple or quadruple the ingredient amounts (depending on the size of your pitcher). If serving right away, you can go ahead and add the ginger ale. If you’re going to be making the pitcher of drinks in advance and keeping in the fridge, I’d wait to add the ginger ale until when you pour individual drinks. This will help prevent the soda from losing its fizz too quickly.
