TikTok is known for viral recipes that are unique and kind of crazy-sounding. These Tootsie Roll shots are exactly what you’d expect from a “TikTok recipe” – they’re easy to make, sound like they shouldn’t taste good…but they taste really, really amazing and JUST like real Tootsie Roll candies!
How Did This Drink Get Its Name?
Both my husband and I were bartenders before we got married. When I asked him if he’d ever heard of a “Tootsie Roll Shot” he knew exactly what I was talking about. So I think this is actually a recipe that’s been around for a while and just recently gained a lot of attention from viral TikTok videos.
The name comes from the uncanny way that this drink tastes like a Tootsie Roll, but with unexpected ingredients.
These Tootsie Roll shots are made with just two ingredients:
- Coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua)
- Orange juice
How, you might ask, does the combination of orange juice and coffee taste like a Tootsie Roll?!? It can’t really work…can it?!
Friends, I don’t know how this recipe works…but it does!!
Something about the blending of the tart citrus and the smooth coffee and vanilla flavors makes a chocolate-y taste. How cool is that?!
Who knew that the delicious mix of Kahlua and orange juice could become such a winning combination? This fun shot recipe looks and tastes just like a Tootsie Roll and has the perfect blend of chocolate flavor and a hint of orange. This shot is so convincing it even smells like a Tootsie Roll!

Instructions
- Add coffee liqueur and orange juice to a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake well fro a few seconds to mix and chill the liquid.
- Strain into shot glasses.
- Garnish with a Tootsie Roll candy on the rim of each glass.

Prep Tips
- In the printable recipe card, we specified using 2 ounces each of Kahlua and orange juice. This yields two (2oz) servings. You can make a larger batch by increasing the amounts as much as you’d like. The important thing is to keep a 1:1 ratio of the ingredients.
- Kahlua is 20% ABV, so it is about half as strong as spirits like vodka or whiskey. This isn’t a super strong drink, but you’ll still want to enjoy responsibly of course. You can adjust the strength of the drink by using a bit more or a bit less of the Kahlua.

Ingredients
- 2 ounces Kahlua
- 2 ounces Orange Juice pulp-free
- Mini Tootsie Rolls unwrapped, for garnish
Instructions
