Instructions

To Prep: Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees and spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.

  1. Open the can of cinnamon rolls and gently separate dough into individual cinnamon rolls. Arrange the rolls in Christmas tree shape on a large cookie sheet. You should have one cinnamon roll on the top. Two in the center. Three on the bottom row. Then one at the bottom for a tree trunk.
  2. Bake for 8-10 minutes (or according to package directions).
  3. Remove from oven and allow to cool enough to handle. Generously coat the tops of all of the cinnamon rolls with green icing, except for the bottom roll that is meant to be the tree trunk. Leave that one brown.
  4. Decorate with Christmas sprinkles.

TIP: If you plan to use a serving platter to present your cinnamon roll Christmas tree, you may want to line your baking sheet with parchment paper. This will make it easy to transfer the finished dessert from your cookie sheet to your platter.

Prep Tips

  • We used holiday sprinkles to decorate our cinnamon roll trees, however, you can decorate however you see fit! Try using larger candies to make Christmas ornaments, different colored icing to make bunting, powdered sugar for snow, etc.
  • Any leftovers should be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They’re definitely best enjoyed the day you make them, but will keep in the fridge for a couple days.
  • If you don’t have green frosting on hand, you can use the icing that comes with the cinnamon rolls and stir in a few drops of green food coloring. Use this green frosting mixture the create your holiday cinnamon rolls.
  • If the cinnamon rolls don’t peel apart easily, a grown-up can use a sharp knife to cut them apart.
  • If making this recipe with kids, allow the cinnamon rolls to cool to room temperature before decorating. You can also move them from the hot pan to a cool sheet pan to speed up the process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Make This Recipe Ahead Of Time?

Because this recipe uses refrigerated cinnamon rolls, I recommend making it just before you plan to serve breakfast, simply because refrigerated cinnamon rolls don’t taste as yummy reheated as they do fresh. The good news is this is a super easy and fast recipe, only taking about 20 minutes from start to finish…depending on how long you spend decorating them.

Can You Use Homemade Cinnamon Rolls?

Sure! We used canned cinnamon roll dough because it is a huge time-saver! Our family has a favorite homemade cinnamon roll recipe that I beg my mom to make every Christmas break, but since they use traditional yeast dough, they are definitely a labor of love! It’s tough to beat the flavor and texture of from-scratch cinnamon rolls, but there’s nothing wrong with using pre-made dough to make this recipe easy or something that the kids can help to prepare.
