4th of July Pretzels
The 4th of July is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to get festive with some seriously fun (and easy) treats! These red, white, and blue pretzel rods are the perfect solution for for making a fun treat without lots of ingredients or prep work. Not only are they a total blast to make (see what I did there), but they’re so simple even the kids can help out (bonus points for keeping them entertained while you tackle the backyard BBQ!).
My crew loves to make chocolate-dipped pretzels, and turning them into festive holiday treats is a fun activity we love to do together. We make chocolate covered treats like pretzels, crackers, etc for all the holidays! So yummy and easy!
To make these red white and blue pretzels, all you need are pretzel rods, candy melts, and sprinkles. Then you can let your creativity run wild and light up the 4th of July party table like a fireworks display!

- 1/2 cup white candy melts
- 1/2 cup blue candy melts
- 4th of July Sprinkles
Helpful Kitchen Tools
Instructions
To prep: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. This will be where you lay the dipped pretzels to set.
- Place 1/2 cup of ONE color of candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- Dip one pretzel rod into the melted candy, until about half of the pretzel rod is coated. Gently shake off any excess candy back into the bowl.
- While the candy coating is still wet, sprinkle the patriotic sprinkles on top or roll the coated end of the pretzel in a bowl of sprinkles.
- Place the decorated pretzel on your prepared pan to dry. Repeat the process with each color of candy melt until you’ve decorated all your pretzels.
Prep Tips
- Candy Coating – Candy melts are specifically designed for candy making – they look like melted chocolate but they are not actually chocolate. Alternatively, you can use white chocolate melting wafers and stir in food coloring to make the red and blue dipping chocolate.
- Setting – It usually takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour for the candy coating to harden at room temperature. To speed up the process, you can place the pan of decorated pretzels in the fridge or freezer for 10 minutes.
- Storage – Store your candy coated pretzel rods in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Keep away from any heat or light sources that could melt the coating.
