Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Keep the Bananas from Turning Brown?
When serving a fruit tray at a party, it may be out on the table for a little while. There are a couple tricks to keep you bananas looking fresh:
- Spritz the fruit with a mist of lemon juice or lime juice. The citrus will help prevent browning. (This is also what I do for apple slices in my kids’ lunch boxes).
- Keep the fruit tray covered and refrigerated until you’re ready to serve.
How Long Can Fresh Fruit Sit Out?
When it’s whole or unpeeled, fruit can sit out at room temperature pretty much indefinitely, especially the bananas. I usually store berries in the fridge for longevity.
However, once sliced, fruit should not be left out for more than 2 hours. Keep the fruit tray refrigerated until it’s time to eat.
