Red, White, and Blue Shots

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite occasions! I love all of the fun food, colorful drinks, and festive decorations. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you might have seen some of my red, white, and blue recipes before.

If you’re new here, welcome! This is one of my newest 4th of July drink recipes and I’m so excited about this one!!

These layered red, white, and blue layered shooters are as pretty as it gets! And they are surprisingly easy to make because the density of the liquid helps keep everything in its place.

You only need 4 simple ingredients to make this festive cocktail — you may already have some (or all) of these at home because they are common mixers/liqueurs.

Trust me when I say that these colorful patriotic shots will wow everyone at your next summer barbecue or cookout! They would also be fabulous for Memorial Day parties too.

Ingredients

You don’t have to measure exactly, but you’ll be using equal parts of the four following ingredients:

  • Blue Curaçao
  • Coconut Rum
  • Piña Colada mix
  • Grenadine

The exact amounts will depend on the size of your shot glass — 1oz for each layer is a good starting point, but again, it doesn’t have to be exact. You could also do this as a full sized drink, with ice!

Bartender Tools Used

  • Large Shot Glasses
  • Coffee Spoon
  • Cocktail shaker

Directions

Pour grenadine into the bottom of a shot glass, so that it is about 1/3 full.

Add coconut rum and piña colada mix to a cocktail shaker with ice. Give a few shakes to combine, then strain into a separate cup.

Take a spoon and flip so the curved side (bottom) faces up. Place the edge of the spoon against the inside of your shot glass. Slowly pour the coconut rum mixture on top of the back of spoon so that it slides down the glass and layers on top of the grenadine.

Here’s a look at how we used the spoon to layer the liquors

Rinse the spoon and use to layer the blue curacao liqueur on top of the white layer. Do not stir.

Best enjoyed as soon as possible, so they layers don’t have time to start mixing.

Your Drink Will Be Layered As Such:

  • Red Layer (Bottom) — Grenadine
  • White Layer (Middle) — Coconut Rum and Piña Colada
  • Blue Layer (Top) — Blue Curacao

Recipe intended for readers 21+; please enjoy responsibly.

Prep Tips

  • If you don’t have a bar spoon, a regular spoon should work for the layered process. Just be sure to pour slowly on the back of a spoon so the color layers mix as little as possible.
  • Garnish with a dollop of Reddi Whip whipped cream (or similar whipped topping) and patriotic sprinkles for an extra festive drink.
  • If you don’t have piña colada mix on hand, you could substitute with coconut milk or coconut cream.
