Red White and Blue Swirled Fudge

This patriotic fudge is the perfect treat for any Fourth of July celebration. It’s easy to make and only requires a few simple ingredients – 5 ingredients to be exact! The white chocolate fudge base is swirled with red and blue candy melts, creating tasty treat that’s sure to get some oohs and ahhs!

I love making homemade layered fudge for holidays. I’ve madeย red and green striped Christmas fudge and bright green and black Halloween fudge, just to name a couple of my favorites. This red, white, and blue fudge is even easier to make because you don’t have to wait for each layer to set. You make all the colors at the same time, pour them in the pan and they swirl themselves. The hardest part is waiting for the fudge to be ready to cut and enjoy!

I love the festive red, white, and blue swirls – we topped them with patriotic sprinkles for even more fun. It kind of reminds me of fireworks…perfect for July 4th or Memorial Day.

Another thing I love about this recipe is that it is so easy and you don’t need to use the stovetop. Just a microwave!

Let’s get to it!

Instructions

To Prep: Line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper and set aside.

  1. Add one cup white chocolate chips to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 2-3 minutes. Heat the chocolate in 20-30 second intervals, stirring between. When the white chocolate mixture is smooth and creamy and fully melted, it’s ready to go.
  2. Remove the lids and foil from both frosting containers. Place one of the frosting containers in the microwave on high for 1 minute. Make sure there is no foil at all left on the container first!
  3. Pour 2/3 of the melted frosting into the bowl of melted white chocolate chips. Stir until well combined and smooth.
  4. Place the other cup of white chocolate chips into a clean microwave safe bowl and repeat the melting process.ย Add the blue food coloring to this bowl and stir until the mixture is a smooth blue color. You can add more food coloring as needed until you have the desired shade of blue.
  5. Microwave the second can of frosting for one minute.
  6. Scoop 2/3 of the melted frosting into the blue white chocolate mixture and stir to combine completely.
  7. Place the red candy melts in another microwavable bowl and repeat the melting process in the microwave like the chocolate chips.
  8. Once the red candy melts are creamy and smooth, add the remaining frosting from both containers and stir to mix.

How To Layer The Fudge:

  1. Start with the white mixture and pour half of it into the bottom of the pan. You can move the bowl around while you pour to create a swirl.
  2. Take the blue mixture and pour half of it on top of the white fudge.
  3. Pour half of the red fudge on top of the blue fudge.
  4. Repeat the pouring process until all of the fudge mixtures are used. Gently tap the pan on the counter to make sure that the fudge is even. Top with sprinkles and allow the fudge to harden completely before slicing with a sharp knife and serving.

Prep Tips

  • DO NOT stir the fudge once you’ve poured it into the pan. The best way to make the swirls is to move the bowls around when you pour the colorful fudge into the pan. Stirring will blend the colors, so you may end up with purple instead of red, white, and blue.
  • If your the white chocolate starts to get too thick to easily pour into the pan, you can reheat in the microwave for 15 seconds to soften it again.
  • Make sure the fudge is on a level surface while it sets. This will ensure that the fudge is consistent in thickness and that it does not wrinkle up on top.
  • You can speed up the hardening process by placing the fudge in the fridge. I recommend covering the pan with plastic wrap, foil, pour a lid to protect the fudge.
  • You can use blue candy melts in place of the blue food coloring and 1 cup of the white chocolate chips. Simply replace both of those ingredients with 1 cup of blue candy melts. This will mean you have a little bit of leftover frosting.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Do You Store Homemade Fudge?

This fudge does not require refrigeration. It will last for about a week in an airtight container at room temperature.

If you’d like to extend the “shelf life” of your fudge, you can place the container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze the fudge for up to 2-3 months. I recommend individually wrapping each fudge square in parchment paper or plastic wrap and placing them into a large freezer bag.

How Many Pieces Does This Fudge Recipe Yield?

It really depends on how large you cut the fudge slices. I usually aim for 1-2 inch squares. If you cut the fudge into 2-inch pieces, you’d have 16 servings.
