Strawberry Ladybugs
How to make chocolate & strawberry ladybugs, a fun healthy snack that’s sure to get kids eating more fruit!
Ladybug Strawberries
Cutest. Bugs. Ever.
Sometimes it can be tough to get kids to eat healthy foods! I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve though, and today I’m sharing a coupleย of my favorite ways to incorporate more fruits in my girls’ diets.
These fruit and chocolate ladybugs are one of the first recipes I made for the blog, all the way back in 2016. They’re still one of my favorite kids’ snack ideas because they’re super cute and easy to make!
You only need 3 simple ingredients to make them!

Photo Step-by-Step Instructions:
Remove the tops of the strawberries by cutting a small V-shape (this will leave a nice little pocket to attach their “heads”). Cut strawberries in half lengthwise.
Melt chocolate in candy decorating bag according to instructions on package. Make a small cutย at the point of the bag.
TIP: In a pinch you can also use a regular plastic zipper bag and cut one of the corners to decorate. In this case, do not melt the chocolate in the bag, but instead melt in a microwave safe bowl and scoop into the bag.
Squeeze small dots of chocolate onto the strawberries. Use chocolate to attach the blueberry “head.” Allow chocolate to harden.
Use chocolate to draw legs and antennae on the serving plate.
Now the best part…enjoying them! I’ve never seen my girlsย eat fruit so quickly!
Prep Tips
- Chocolate – Melting wafers are designed to melt smoothly, so that’s usually what I choose when making any kind of chocolate recipe with melted chocolate. However, we’re just making little dots here, so you really can use regular chocolate chips for this recipe. Milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips…whatever you have on hand!
- Melting – The microwave is the easiest way to melt your chocolate, but be sure to use a microwave-safe bowl and handle with care, as the bowl may become hot. Heat the chocolate chips in 20 second intervals, stirring between, until melted and smooth. Then you can scoop them into a piping bag.
- Decorating – Speaking of piping bags, if you don’t have them, you can use a regular ziplock bag instead! Scoop the melted chocolate into a plastic bag and cut off the corner. Now you can pipe the chocolate onto your fruit. Be sure to handle carefully, in case the chocolate is still hot. And never melt the chocolate in the plastic bag – always use a microwave safe bowl and transfer to the bag.
Tips to Get Kids to Eat Fruit
This recipe was originally part of a sponsored post in 2016 for Kraft and Capri Sun, where I shared some of my favorite tips to help get kids to eat more fruit.
ย Tip #1 – Make Eating Fruit Fun!
It seems so simple, but the girls loveย it when Iย “dress fruit up” and make it into fun shapes and characters, like these strawberryย ladybugs I created.
We’ve also made these fun fruit recipes since then:
- 2-Ingredient Healthy Homemade Fruit Roll-Ups
- Halloween Fruit Parfaits
- Homemade Green Gummy Snacks
- Strawberry Juice Gummy Bears
TIP #2: Add fruit in unexpected ways!
We are big water drinkers, but every now and then I treat the girls to a Certified USDA Organicย CAPRI SUNโขย because it contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and no added sugar.* Plus, it contains 100% daily value of Vitamin C and a full serving of fruit.**ย The girls love their special juice drink and I love that it is better for them than otherย sugary drinks and sodas. The fact that CAPRI SUNโข has an organic option is aย bonus, because we try to incorporate organicย products whenever possible.
*Not a low calorie food.

So cute article!
How far in advance of serving can I make these?
Hi Tina – I think they’re probably best if you make them the day you’ll be serving, though you may be able to make them the night before. Any longer than that and moisture from the berries may affect the chocolate sticking.
