Disney Hot Hot Summer Heat Drink

Cinnamon whiskey, cherry, and boba…in one drink?!

Hot Hot Summer Heat was originally served at the Coca Cola Rooftop Bar in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort. It is a very unique and exciting blend of Fanta pineapple soda, Jack Daniels Fire Whiskey, Smirnoff Cherry Vodka, Grenadine, and red boba pearls.

Spicy, cold, refreshing, with a boba surprise at the bottom of the glass — you’ve never tried a cocktail like this before!

What is Boba?

Traditional boba balls are also known as tapioca pearls and are made from tapioca starch derived from the cassava plant. They’re naturally gluten free and have a texture similar to gummy candy or Jello jigglers. Taste-wise, boba pearls have very little flavor of their own, but they add an interesting contrast in texture to drinks and smoothies.

For this drink however, we used what is known as “popping boba.” These are a bit different because they are filled with juice, so they pop easily when you bite into them and they do have a lot of flavor. Popping boba may not actually contain tapioca at all, depending on the brand you get.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can You Make this Drink Without Boba Pearls?

Sure! We used boba balls because that is what is in the original drink at Disney, and we wanted to get as close to the original as possible. If you’re not a fan of boba, you can omit them. The drink is still fruity and fabulous!

You’re also welcome to use another type of boba, such as the traditional kind, if that’s what you prefer.

Can I Use Fireball Whiskey Instead?

Yes! We used Jack Daniels Fire for this recipe because that is what is used in the original drink. However, Jack Daniels Fire is very similar to Fireball — they are both cinnamon flavored whiskey. Feel free to use whichever you have on hand or whichever you like best.

How Do You Make this a Non-Alcoholic Drink?

There are two types of liquor used for this drink recipe. Cinnamon whiskey is a hard flavor to replicate, so a non-alcoholic drink won’t have exactly the same flavor. But if you’re making it for kids, that’s probably ok because kids often don’t like strong cinnamon flavor anyway.

To make a kid-friendly version of this drink, simply omit the whisky and vodka. Instead, mix together the pineapple soda and grenadine in a glass of ice and add the boba on top.

I don’t recommend this drink for kids younger than 5 or any child that might not be able to chew the boba pearls well. Tapioca pearls are fully digestible (they are made with tapioca starch) but can pose a choking hazard for young children, toddlers, etc. Always supervise.
