Instructions

To Prep: Place a sheet of parchment paper, wax paper, or a silicone baking mat on top of a cookie sheet. This will help keep everything stable while you make your spriderwebs. It also allows you to pick everything up and move to the fridge or freezer to set faster.ย

  1. Heat the dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, microwaving in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Scoop the melted chocolate into a piping bag with a small round tip or a hole cut in the end.
  2. Pipe a small circle of dark chocolate about the size of a dime on top of the parchment paper or baking mat. This will be the spider’s body. Use the chocolate to draw 4 legs on each side of the spider. Allow to set completely.
  3. Arrange 8-10 pretzel sticks in a circle, so that one side of each pretzel meets in the center to form a star shape.
  4. Melt the white chocolate chips using the same process as you did for the dark chocolate. Scoop the white chocolate into a piping bag with a small hole in the end.
  5. Use the white chocolate to make a large dot in the middle of the pretzel web that will hold the pretzel sticks together. Now pipe the melted white chocolate in a circular motion or a spiral shape on top of the pretzels to look like a spider web.
  6. Take one of the chocolate spiders you made and place it on top of the web, while the white chocolate is still wet. If using sprinkles, this is also when you will add those. Allow the chocolate to harden before moving or serving.

Prep Tips

  • Chocolate – You can use white chocolate chips, white chocolate melting wafers, white candy melts or white chocolate almond bark to make the spiderwebs. Dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips are what we used for the spiders. However, you could even use milk chocolate or black candy melts.
  • Supplies – Piping bags give you stability and control to draw precise designs. However, in a pinch you can substitute with a plastic baggie or ziplock bag and cut off a corner of the bag. Do not melt the chocolate in the bag.
  • Assembly – When drizzling the chocolate to make the spiderweb, you want to make sure that your drizzles are not too thin or they will break easily. I recommend piping thick lines, about the same width as a wide-tip marker. Since you need the white chocolate to be wet when you add the chocolate spiders, I recommend waiting to start melting the white chocolate until the spiders have had a chance to harden. You can place them in the fridge or freezer to speed up the setting process.
  • Customize – Instead of making your own spiders out of melted chocolate, you can use candy spiders as a time-saver. You can also use different candy toppings instead of sprinkles, such as candy corn or M&Ms.
  • Storage – These spiderweb pretzels do not require refrigeration, however, you’ll want to make sure to keep them in a cool dark place so they do not melt. For maximum freshness, store at room temperature in an airtight container.
