What is a Cricut Maker?
If you’ve spent any amount of time in crafting circles or online groups, you’ve probably heard people talking about the Cricut Maker. Usually it’s about how awesome the Cricut Maker is and all of the amazing things they made with it.
In fact, I’d heard of the Cricut Maker long before I even knew what it was! But after hearing enough from my friends and fellow bloggers, I figured I’d better get with the program! “What IS the Cricut Maker and why do I need one?”
So here’s the scoop…
Cricut Maker – What is it?
The Cricut Maker is a smart cutting tool, delivering professional quality cutting performance at home. To put it super simply, the Cricut Maker cuts stuff.
How it Works:
- Create a custom project or use a ready-to-make project in Cricut Design Space on your computer.
- Your computer sends the project to your Cricut Maker, which cuts out the project you designed.
- Build your project using the pieces cut out with your Cricut Maker, or press your design onto an item using the Cricut EasyPress.
The steps may vary slightly depending on what you’re making, but it really is essentially an easy 3-step process!

5 Reasons I Love My Cricut Maker
Now that I’ve owned my Maker for a few months, I’ve grown to love it even more! Here’s why…
1. The Cricut Maker is a Tool for All Skill Levels
What amazes me about the Cricut Maker is that you never “grow out of it,” no matter how advanced your crafting skills. On the flip side, even total beginners can use the Cricut Maker to create professional looking DIY projects!
Our very first project was to make Unicorn Jean Jackets for Back to School. From start to finish it took me less than two hours to make shirts for both girls. That includes learning how to use the machine for the first time!

2. The Cricut Maker is a Professional Tool
The Cricut Maker is a professional level tool, the likes of that I’d imagine would be previously have been prohibitively expensive for the average person to own.
However, even though it is a professional tool, the Maker is easy enough for anyone to use. This tote bag took less than 20 minutes using this ready-to-go project design on Cricut Design Space.
3. You Can Literally Make Just About Anything with the Cricut Maker
Some of the most common Cricut crafts involve cutting out designs and then pressing them onto objects using the companion tool, the Cricut EasyPress.
So far we’ve made jeans jackets, tote bags, and coasters. I love love love my “mom tricks” tote bag that I made with my oldest daughter:
4. The Cricut Maker is a Gorgeous Machine
I honestly think that ALL Cricut machines are beautifully designed. Even though I have travel/protective totes for my machines, they are so pretty that I kind of love having them out on my counter. I suppose I need to create a crafting room where I can leave it out at all times!
In the meantime, I made sure to protect my investment with machine totes for both my Maker and EasyPress. The totes are super pretty, well-designed, and offer serious protection:

5. You Can Make Gifts or Even Start Your Own Home Business!
Our family loves to create homemade gifts for family and friends – I think that these gifts that you custom create for your loved ones are truly meaningful. Plus making your own gifts is budget friendly!
If you create your own custom designs, you could even start a side hustle selling them online!
I loved the coasters I made so much that my mom, sister, and I plan to get together and make more coasters to give as Christmas presents. Stay tuned!
